New Hope and Freedom was started in 1976 as a community counseling service offered by the pastor of the Grace Brethren church in Camden, Ohio. Over the years it has incorporated, expanded and contracted, relocated and refocused and now offers several facets of service.
It has since its inception been on the cutting edge of providing excellent professional counseling, psychotherapy, workshops, seminars, group studies, private consultation and personal life-strategy coaching to individuals, couples, families, churches, leaders and corporations all coming from a caring, emancipating Christian perspective.
Dr. Sprunger, founder and director, is the author and developer of the theoretical approach to counseling psychology known since 1981 as "Emancipation Therapy." It is based on the New Testament Scriptural concept that anything, inside or outside of us, past, present or future that rises to the level of being a lord and master over us is in conflict with the personal freedom God wants and Christ has purchased for us (Galatians 5:1, 13; John 8:31-36).

We are committed to the highest professional services that we can logistically and ethically provide. We respect where each client has been and is coming from religiously and experientially.
When there are special financial concerns, we work with those needs, as God provides for ours.
We provide phone consultation and counseling to those who have experienced catastrophic trauma, loss or stress due to natural disasters, offering three free sessions, and adjusting other fees as we can.
When there is loss of employment or catastrophic financial need, we will work with clients, offering services at 50% of normal fees until things are sufficiently improved.
We do this as a part of our mission of ministry, through private gifts (often offered by the counselor), and without outside organizational support or public pleas for funding. Gifts are appreciated and valued.

"Professional Confidant"(tm)
Dr. Sprunger has had a special burden in recent years to reach out and offer a new type of service that goes beyond traditional counseling, consultation, coaching and therapy. This relationship is one of a multifaceted, private, professional confidant.(tm) This new professional role is one that is more than counselor or psychologist, although there may be need for this type of professional insight. It is more than that of coaching, although that role may also be needed. It is a position that requires trust and senior-level experience in counseling, executive leadership, life-strategy coaching, spiritual and theological insightfulness, and must be "on-call" at a moments notice.
The main audience for this type of new service is the individual who is in a public place of leadership and/or responsibility. Often these individuals (as well as their immediate family) are more vulnerable to scrutiny by outsiders and they are not comfortable in dealing with personal, marital, family or corporate concerns in a traditional forum through their workplace or insurance coverage. This is a huge group of individuals who are being missed but, nevertheless, are in special need.
Because we have seen a very special need by those in places of significant leadership and/or responsibility. Many are seeking or in need of finding a special confidant, an executive-coach or senior-level consultant with whom they can entrust their personal, professional and family issues.
To meet this specific need we have created NHF Consultation and Counsel. This service is specifically directed toward senior executives, upper management, entreprenuers, business owners, professionals, independent contractors, attorneys, physicians, psychologists, educators, politicians, professional actors and athletes and clergy. These key people, although not better than others, hold a great deal of responsibility, not only for themselves, but for the lives and wellbeing of many others, including families, communities, country and maybe even the world.
What is offered is an on-call, private, non-traditional model of senior-level support by a professional confidant(tm) who is on a retainer. It is strictly confidential. The only paper trail will be that which is required by law. Each professional confidant(tm) has over 20,000 hours of mental health, pastoral, and/or psychological one-on-one counseling and consultation experience. Each has significant senior-level executive experience. Each has significant advanced Biblical training and experience in spiritual and theological support. Each has entrepreneurial experience, and a genuine love of life, liberty and the pursuit of true happiness.
